A selection of Northern Denmark

On my way back down through Denmark, I took advantage of the fairly regular trains and spent a little time wandering in Hjørring and Aalborg before spending the night in Århus again. And when I got back to Århus, I wandered some more, this time making it to the Botanic Gardens. Where I saw people playing an odd sort of game with sticks. Really, I should have stopped and asked someone what was going on (and nobody that I've spoken to since has been able to tell me), but c'est la vie, that's one more thing to find out at some stage.

Hjørring is very small town - I really only stopped there because I had to change trains and had to wait half an hour anyway. I essentially wandered up to St Olai's Kirke and cemetery at the top of the hill and back down again.

Aalborg is, like Århus, a university town. There's something about each town that gives it away, even before you know there's a university there. Maybe it was just a subconscious assessment of the age of the population or something like that. Anyway, my Norwegian friend A. had recommended that I stop in Aalborg, perhaps even stay there, but I found that the town had been gentrified more than Århus and I couldn't find a cheap hostel to stay in (at least, not centrally). So I just spent a couple of hours wandering around.

And finally, back to Århus that evening, to the Botanic Gardens - complete with windmill and Den Gamle By (the Old Town) and compulsory shots of the new city, as well.
